Bend’s Wall Street Isn’t Named After the Famous One in New York

One of the more popular streets that you’ll visit here in Bend is Wall Street, as today it is jammed paced with places to shop, wine and dine, and more. But don’t go thinking we’re envious of New York or anything! Wall Street in Bend actually named for a legitimately wall of lava rock that once lined the street.
 

A Thing About Bend Oregon: It’s Home to a Volcano!

Mount Bachelor is one of the most common places to visit when people stay here in Bend, but did you know that’s there more hiding under that mountaintop than you may have realized? Truth is: it’s actually a volcano! But don’t worry – Mount Bachelor’s last eruption is estimated to be between 8,000-10,000 years ago and poses minimal threat to become active again in the future.
 

An Astronaut Training Ground

Did you know that the Bend area was once used to help train astronauts? It’s true! Because volcanic terrain can be rocky and unpredictable (much like what they thought the moon could be like at the time), astronauts frequently trained in the area to prepare for their trips. And hey, a piece of Bend even made it to the moon once! Apollo 15 astronaut Jim Irwin placed a volcanic rock from the area on the moon during his visit.
