Oregon offers plenty of fun and excitement during any point of the year. If you want winter sports, we have you covered throughout the winter season. The summer offers plenty of fun under the sun especially when you get to hang out on the river. Sunriver continues to be a top tourist destination in the state of Oregon; our busiest seasons are the winter and summer. However, the spring and fall seasons are still just as exciting but with less crowds for you to work through. If you wish to enjoy a quieter time in the area, we recommend visiting during one of these two seasons. Here is how you can enjoy a Sunriver getaway during our quieter times of the year:

Go Stargazing at Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory

The spring season here in Sunriver brings about clear skies that open up our eyes to the stars above. After the sun has set, you can take your family over to the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory for some incredible stargazing. The local observatory has one of the largest collection of telescopes in the entire country. The sun sets early in the spring season allowing your family to peek up at the stars without going too far past your bedtime. The Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory also features a variety of fun events too to check out during daylight hours as you learn all about the local flora and fauna in the region. Admission passes can be purchased in advance to make it easy to check out this local attraction.

Catch the Last of Skiing

One of the top activities here in Sunriver is going to ski down Mount Bachelor. This local peak offers some of the best ski conditions in the country and is frequently a top destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The winter season offers the prime time of year for fresh powder for an unbelievable run down the slopes. Of course, this also means that the winter season is also one of our busiest seasons here in the area. During the early spring time you can still catch a few last runs on Mount Bachelor. You may not be skiing down fresh powder but you will have the slopes practically to yourself especially if you ski during the week. Mount Bachelor offers a rental shop where you can get your gear from along with introductory lessons so even beginners can have their best run yet. Enjoy a spacious time on the slopes when you ski during the early spring season!

Explore Benham Falls

The fall season features just as much fun as you can find in the spring. The fall season is a great time to visit as the temps are starting to drop from warm to crisp. The colors of the leaves are changing into vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows in the treetops. Being outdoors is extremely comfortable with a light jacket. One of the best areas to explore during the fall season is over at Benham Falls. Specifically, the Trail to Benham Falls will have you take a short hike that leads to the river and a beautiful waterfall that is incredible to see up close. Another great hike nearby will also take you to Tumalo Falls for equally impressive scenery. Many locals enjoy Benham Falls for the fishing too, with fly fishing to be especially popular.

Explore the Lava River Cave

You get to avoid the summer crowds of Sunriver when you visit during the fall season. This is great especially when you want to see popular attractions in the area such as the Lava River Cave. This volcanic attraction can be found between Sunriver and Bend and offers the longest lava cave in the country that is an impressive mile long in length. If you visit during a warm fall day you will find the cave to be an enjoyable cool temperature so make sure to bring a jacket with you. This is a must see attraction for those who are visiting Sunriver for the first time!

Fall Events

You will find that the fun continues on with fall events exclusive to the area. Check out the Harvest Festival in October over at Village Sunriver for a fall themed event including live music, food, arts and crafts, and much more. Truck or Treat takes place every Halloween to give your kids a safe place to continue their trick or treating tradition at.
