Sightseeing in Hood River

Located at the center of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Hood River boasts an unreal amount of sightseeing. There’s a lot to do in Hood River so we’ve compiled a list of our three favorite Hood River things to do and see below.

Do Go Chasing Waterfalls

A trip to Hood River and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area isn’t complete without at least one waterfall hike. Crystal clear snow melt cascading down volcanic features flanked by bright green mosses is the quintessential view that makes the Columbia River Gorge so famous.

To get an immediate understanding of the beauty that the Columbia River Gorge offers, head to the famous Multnomah Falls. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike up past the falls to the upper viewing platform. From there, you can get an idea of how far the water cascades down to reach Multnomah Falls’ lower viewing platform.

Another favorite waterfall hike is Tamanawas Falls, which lies close to Mount Hood in the Mount Hood National Forest. Although this hike requires an hour drive South on Highway 35 towards Mount Hood, Tamanawas Falls is often uncrowded. It’s also a short 3.5-mile round trip hike that’s very close to Mount Hood, so it’s possible to complete two hikes in one day.

Explore Oregon’s Fruit Loop

On your way back to Hood River from Tamanawas Falls, be sure to check out Oregon’s Fruit Loop in Hood River Valley. The Fruit Loop is at the foot of majestic Mount Hood and offers a variety of wines, fruits, vegetables, flowers, ciders, and food from 28 fruit stands.

Fruit Loop visitors get a true farm experience at each of the 28 locations and can learn about how their food was made while making their purchases.

Try Mountain Biking

Hood River has long been a destination for outdoor enthusiasts from around the country. Hood River Mountain Bike Adventures guides riders through Hood River’s unique and scenic trails on custom-fit bicycles.

Services include full or half-day bike rentals, photography, and transportation to/from the trails. Mountain biking with a guide who can fit your gear is an excellent way to get introduced to one of Oregon’s favorite outdoor sports.

Gear Shops

Need gear for your Hood River sightseeing adventure? There are plenty of local outposts in downtown Hood River that can help you get fitted to make your outdoor experiences more enjoyable.

2nd Wind Sports, Doug’s Sports, and Shortt Supply Company are our three go-tos for gear in Hood River. These sporting gear stores can also help you explore the wide variety of outdoor activities available to you in Hood River.
