Hood River: Home of Outdoor Sports
The Hood River region is well known for a variety of outdoor activities. For the active family on the go, there couldn’t be a better place to hike, fish, kayak, and mountain bike. When you’re not resting in our Mt Hood rentals but want a slower pace, the town of Hood River has many beautiful trails along the waterfront where you can stroll and watch the windsurfers do their thing. For those who want to try their hand at this challenging sport, there’s a protected harbor area where beginners can practice safely. Hood River also has a great waterfront park, public pool, skate park, and ball fields, and there are two 18-hole golf courses in the valley. And of course, ski enthusiasts will already know that nearby Mount Hood offers four different ski resort areas in the winter season, with one on a glacier that is operational year-round!
Don’t Forget the Produce
You might not think a person would plan their vacation around the harvest season, but maybe you’ve never been to Hood River before! Oregonians from all over the state flock here in the fall to indulge in essentially the world’s best apples, pears, cherries, and more. If you prefer your fruits fermented, check out April’s Hood Valley Hard-Pressed Cider Fest, or tour some of the region’s fine vineyards. Beer lovers might want to aim for October to attend the Hood River Hops Fest, but if you miss that, there are plenty of small craft breweries to sample in downtown Hood River.
Hood River is a great town to explore on foot, enjoying unique events, amazing attractions as well as the many shops and restaurants around the town. Kids (and parents) might especially enjoy the unique attraction of the International Museum of Carousel Art. Come explore Hood River from one of our great three-bedroom vacation homes in Hood River!
