Have a Drink at Hood River Bars

After a long day having fun outside near Hood River, there’s no better way to relax and unwind than to grab a drink at one of Hood River’s bars. Each bar has its own quirky or cool aesthetic and each also has their own trademark drinks. Read on to explore a few of the bars in Hood River that contribute to the wide variety of watering holes in the area.

Double Mountain Brewery

Double Mountain Brewery is one a taproom and restaurant located on the edge of downtown near the Hood River waterfront.

Double Mountain is best known for their ales – India pale ale, India red ale, kolsch, dry-hopped ale, black ale, and a variety of others are all on the menu. In addition, Double Mountain also has a delicious dry cider and a creamy Dublin-style stout.

If you get hungry, Double Mountain has a whole menu of creative pizzas and salads. Double Mountain is a great place to hang out so it can often be busy. Luckily, Double Mountain will pour you a cold one for your wait.

Crush Cider Cafe

If ciders are more your thing, then head down the street from Double Mountain Brewery to Crush Cider Cafe. Although Crush doesn’t make their own ciders, they have 18 rotating taps that enable you to taste the best of the Pacific Northwest. Crush also has several bottles in rotation, which brings their total cider count up to 50.

Most of the ciders poured at Crush are regional and only sold in the Pacific Northwest so we recommend trying more than one. If you’re having a hard time choosing, Crush offers flights of 3 or 6 pours for a reasonable price.

Crush Cider Cafe also has plenty of bites to pair with your cider like bratwurst, flatbread pizza, salad, and chili.

Tarwater Tavern

For the best speakeasy-style craft cocktails near Hood River, head to Tarwater Tavern across the Columbia River in White Salmon, Washington, considered by many one of the best Bars in Hood River. Tarwater possesses an artsy and mysterious vibe that matches the antique buildings lining downtown White Salmon.

Tarwater hosts Happy Hour from 4-7PM daily so it’s a great spot to grab a drink any day of the week. During HH, well drinks are $4, wine is $5 per glass, and beers are $1 off.

If you’re interested in Tarwater’s speakeasy classics, be sure to try the Bootlegger, the Old Fashioned, the Manhattan, or their signature Tarwater cocktail. Each of their cocktails is satisfyingly well-balanced and deliciously smooth.
