Many outdoor enthusiasts know that Bend is a place full of natural beauty. Our Oregon city has an abundance of natural attractions that can easily be accessed within and just outside city limits with our vacation rentals. Check out these natural attractions in Bend that we love to visit:
Broken Top
Bend and the surrounding community have some truly unique natural attractions that are open to the public. Broken Top is one such natural attraction and has a rich history that gives it unbelievable views. You can find Broken Top approximately 20 miles outside of Bend; it is in fact an ancient volcano. It was formed after millions of years of erosion by glaciers that have now exposed the volcanic cone. Broken Top is now primarily used as a hiking trail paradise. The most popular trail is approximately 3 miles in length and has a 1,400-foot elevation gain. Once you reach the summit you will be sitting at over 9,100 feet in elevation. The surrounding landscape may not be the forested terrain you are used to seeing around attractions in Bend.
Devils Lake
One of the more popular lakes in the Bend region is Devils Lake. This local lake is approximately 685 acres in size and is not affected by coastal winds. Devils Lake is abundant with local fish such as rainbow trout, catfish, yellow perch, black crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass. Local fowls that live in the surrounding wetland include ducks and geese that migrate into the region each year. If you’re lucky, you may even see a bald eagle flying around! Devils Lake is the perfect place to see all of the local wildlife roaming around. Since the lake is protected by coastal winds, you can enjoy kayaking and canoeing without the fears of being tipped over. We recommend visiting this natural attraction during the summer and fall seasons so you can see the incredible changes of local trees and their reflection off the crystal blue water.
