Summertime Fun in Sunriver
Although it’s a great place to visit in winter as well, Oregon summer trips to Sunriver are so much fun! You have a wide array of activities to choose from, ranging from organized tours to freeform explorations. Whether you like to play on land or in the water, you have so many options!
The rivers are a popular place to play when the weather gets warm. If you’re just interested in something gentle, you can tube-float downriver from the Sunriver marina. For a low-impact workout, you can rent kayaks or paddleboards to explore the river further. If you’re feeling more adventurous, go ahead and book a full-day whitewater rafting trip from Sun Country Tours, exploring the bolder parts of the Deschutes and McKenzie Rivers.
You might think that nearby Mount Bachelor is only a ski resort, but you’d be wrong! They also offer some great off-season fun in the summertime. You can still ride the chair lift and get incredible views of the Cascades region. You can also try their new zip line tour and see it even faster! Mountain biking is also available on their summertime trails, and of course, their fine dining at Pine Marten Lodge is on offer any time of year.
One popular and low-key way to explore the Sunriver area is by bicycle. In fact, with 40 miles of paved bicycle paths to choose from, it might be the most popular activity in the area! The whole family can enjoy gentle rides along flat trails, and it’s the perfect place to teach children to ride. You’ll pedal alongside beautiful rivers, past pine forests and sunny pastures. And of course, if you’re a more adventurous cyclist, there is amazing road riding in the Cascades, as well as numerous mountain bike trails to explore in nearby forests.
If you’re interested in exploring trails by bike, but need a little help getting there, you can book a fun tour to the Paulina Plunge, a natural waterfall feature that’s basically a waterslide. You’ll get there by mountain bike (mostly downhill) on beautiful forest trails, assisted by knowledgeable guides who will fit everyone with the right bike. It’s a must if you’re traveling with active children who love to play in waterfalls, as they’ll remember it for a lifetime!
Sunriver is also a great spot for golf, as there are four incredible courses to choose from here. Explore the manicured greens as you play alongside sparkling rivers, forests, and unique, well-preserved wetlands. You can also brush up your skills at the Sunriver Golf Academy, or even enroll in a special golf camp if you really want to up your game!
There are a few more great options available for Sunriver travelers who are serious animal lovers. Book a horseback ride with Sunriver Trail Rides, and enjoy a gentle walk through the Great Meadow, up into the Ponderosa pines.
