Make the Most of Holiday Time
There’s no better way to spend favorite holidays than with family and friends. We hope to help you make memories that will last a lifetime when you visit Sunriver! No matter the season, you can cozy up in your Sunriver, Oregon lodging, and enjoy quality time spent together, whether it’s around the BBQ or the fireplace. Don’t forget: one of the best things about a rental home instead of a hotel is having a full kitchen! Holiday time often includes special home-cooked meals, and you’ll still have the opportunity to do all that when you book into one of our fabulous rental homes. Additionally, Sunriver is a great place to spend special holidays because there’s usually something fun going on. At Christmas time, you can hit the ice rink at The Village, Sunriver’s outdoor mall, or you can book a special sleigh ride. Sunriver is a special place to share with family and friends!
Fun in All Seasons
Depending on which holiday you visit for, you’ll be looking for different activities based on the season and the weather. Winter is obviously a popular time in central Oregon, as the nearby ski resorts and local sno-parks are tons of fun for every family. Explore the numerous runs at nearby Mount Bachelor, or just hit up the winter tubing hill at SHARC. You can even get way out into the wild powder by booking a snowshoe tour from Wanderlust Tours. Go for a bonfire on the snow, or simply admire the moonlight and starlight.
If you’re visiting for a summer holiday like Independence Day or Labor Day, all your water recreation options open up! Take it slow and easy with a gentle float down the river, or get your adrenaline pumping with an exciting whitewater rafting trip. Go in search of the perfect catch, by learning to fly fish, or try your hand at stand-up paddling. Sunriver is the perfect place for all sorts of fun on the water!
Visits for fall holidays, like Halloween and Thanksgiving, will have you wanting to bundle up a bit more against cooler weather, but also heading out on the trails, in search of fall colors. Take an easy hike to nearby Benham Falls, or visit the Sunriver Nature Center for a guided walk along their interpretive trail. Another fun way to explore the Sunriver area is by bicycle! This planned community was designed with bike paths in mind, and with over 40 miles of paved trails, you won’t be able to resist going for a spin. Some of our Sunriver holiday rentals come with bicycles, so don’t be shy to ask! Sunriver’s flat and easy paths make it the perfect place for children to learn how to ride a bike, and even those who aren’t athletically inclined will find it’s a joy to pedal through pine forests, alongside meadows and rippling rivers.
Those who visit in spring, for holidays like Mothers’ Day, will be rewarded with the blessing of the annual wildflower bloom. One of the best places to see them in central Oregon is right in Sunriver, on the Fall River Trail. This relatively flat and easy trail is 2.5 miles each way, and you’ll pass through mature pine forests and wet meadows where the flowers just go crazy. You can hope to see yellow monkeyflower, white bog orchids, scarlet gilia, and blue-eyed grass along the river banks, as well as larger flowering shrubs in the dryer upland areas of the trail.
