The Palm Springs Air Museum is a Navy and aviation museum with historic aircraft from World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The museum is one of our favorite Palm Springs attractions and is home to one the largest collections of flyable WWII aircraft in the world and was rated one of the top 14 air museums in the country by CNN Travel.
Interactive Exhibits at the Palm Springs Air Museum
The large hangers of the museum are air-conditioned and there are no ropes keeping you from climbing into the cockpit of the aircraft. All the exhibits are interactive and allow you to be hands-on in learning about World War II, which makes it a great museum to take your kids to. They also have a new hangar dedicated to the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Each hangar has planes used during the wars as well as memorabilia, pictures, and videos. There is also a library with books on the wars as well as a flight simulator. Many of the docents at the museum are veterans, and they are very helpful and informative, with vast knowledge on each plane.
If you would like to further explore some of the planes, you can pay $5 to tour a Boeing B-17 Bomber. The museum also offers Warbird Rides. For $195 you can take a ride in a C-47 Skytrain. The ride lasts for 20 minutes and the plane is painted as a flying tribute to the plane used in the June 6, 1944 D-Day invasion.
The Palm Springs Air Museum is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Thanksgiving and Christmas. There is free parking at the museum and admission is $17 for adults, $10 for children, and $15 for teens, seniors, and retired military with ID. Admission is free for active duty military and their family. If you get hungry, there is a small cafe inside the museum that serves snacks, drinks, burgers, and sandwiches.
