We love Kaua’i Surf School, Kaua’i Beach Boys, and Hanalei Surf School. Kaua’i Surf School has been in business since 1999. Instructors teach beginner to intermediate surfers in a group and private lessons on Poipu Beach. Kauai Beach Boys has been owned by the same folks since 1983. The beach boys can teach you how to surf and you can rent gear, including stand-up paddleboards. Hanalei Surf School offers surfing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons and rents all the gear you need to get out on the water.
Where to Surf

Hanalei Bay is a great spot for beginners, and it’s the home of the Hanalei Surf School. Poipu Beach has a good beginner wave called Lemon Drops and two spots good for only experienced surfers, Acid Drop and Heroin’s. Kalapaki Beach is protected by Kukii Point and Carter Point, and, bonus, has a sandy bottom and waist-high water on its south side at Kiahuna Beach. Lastly, we love Anahola, which has a large protective outer reef, plus shade, picnic tables, and campsites.
