Mt. Hood Winery

Sure, the Mt. Hood Winery was named the Oregon Winery of the Year in 2016. But their delicious wine is not the only reason you should visit (though it is certainly enough of one). Located in the heart of the scenic Hood River Valley just minutes from downtown Hood River, this charming winery is styled after a Pacific Northwest hunting lodge and features a stunning lineup of wines and a tasting room with breathtaking views of the vineyard and Mt. Hood rising in the background.

The Tasting Room

We can’t think of a better place to enjoy Hood River wine tasting as you relax than on the decadent leather couches surrounded by flagstone fireplaces, warm cork floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views of the mountains and rolling hills. You can also grab a seat at the elegant 30’ hardwood bar and talk wine with fellow oenophiles, or opt to enjoy the fresh air on the patio with an arbor and even more incredible views of Mt. Hood. Whether you prefer a crisp Pinot Gris with vibrant flavors of apple and pear, a zesty dry Riesling with notes of flowers and tangy green apples, or a candied Grenache with notes of vanilla, strawberry, and green tea, they are sure to have a wine you will enjoy (and plenty for you to try). For those who like it on the sweet side, Mt. Hood Winery features a delicious Riesling and a Gewurztraminer as well as a dessert wine made from a mix of the two varietals (it is unique and pairs perfectly with sweet desserts) and homemade pear wine made from Comice pears.

Award-Winning Wine at Mt. Hood Winery

Located on 25 acres on the site of a century-old family farm, Mt. Hood Winery has been in operation since 2002, winning the Winery of the Year in 2016, an impressive feat as they only produce 3,000 cases each year. Its rich soils are perfect for cooler climate grapes like Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Chardonnay, and the family-run operation sources other, warmer clime grapes from nearby vineyards in order to produce their own Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet, and Grenache on site. The entire operation is overseen by the brothers Steve and Don Bickford, whose family bought the original orchard and farm land in 1909.

Located on Highway 35 south of Hood River, the tasting room is open from 11am to 5pm March through November.
