BEND BREWERIES: CRUX FERMENTATION PROJECT

Known across Oregon for their award-winning beers, Crux Fermentation Project is a must-try for beer lovers visiting Bend. Located inside a former transmission repair plant in Bend’s Old Mill District, Crux’s tasting room is both unique and beautiful. Read on to learn more about what makes Crux’s beer and tasting room special at this Bend breweries.

About Crux

Located in Bend’s historic Old Mill District, the building Crux occupies was originally constructed for Munnell & Sherrill Mill Supply. This company was an integral part of Bend’s former timber empire that lasted nearly a century. The building was transformed into a transmission repair shop in the 1990s and again when the Crux founders bought the building in 2011.

Paying homage to the building’s eclectic past, the interior, furnishings, and fixtures at Crux are all made of mostly reclaimed or recycled materials (including the brewing equipment). We think that this is what gives Crux its contemporary rustic feel and adds to the beautiful aesthetic of this Bend Oregon breweries ‘ property.

About the Tasting Room

Nestled right in the middle of where Crux does their brewing, Crux’s tasting room fully immerses patrons in the beer making and drinking experience. Drinking the beer next to where it’s made adds a layer of hominess that many Oregon breweries lack.

The inside of Crux features brass, reclaimed wood, and giant garage doors that open to the outside patio. On the patio, market lights are strung over communal picnic tables where guests can enjoy a diverse and absolutely delicious menu in the sunshine.

We highly recommend venturing beyond the patio to Crux’s gigantic lawn for some games. Both the patio and the lawn are dog and kid-friendly – a rare combination! Given its layout and diverse menu, Crux is a great place to bring the whole family.

About Crux Beers

Three of Crux’s beers made the cut during the 2018 Oregon Beer Awards. The Doublecross and Crux Farmhouse beers won gold in Belgian Beers and Saison/Farmhouse Ales, respectively. The Crux Stout also won bronze in the Stout category.

Aside from these mouthwatering, highly awarded beers, Crux also has a Porter, a Pilsner, several Ales, several IPAs, a second Stout, a Hefeweizen, and much more on their rotating taps. At any given time, there are over 20 different beers to choose from at Crux.
Aside from beer, Crux also offers a rotating cider on tap, wine, and soda to drink.

Sundowner Hour

If you want to maximize your Crux experience, we recommend staying until sunset for Crux’s Sundowner Hour. Similar to Happy Hour but instead revolving around the sun, Sundowner Hour happens during the half hour before and after sunset. During Sundowner Hour, Crux offers drink and shareables specials. With panoramic views of the Cascade Mountains, Crux is indeed one of the best places in Bend to catch sunset.
