The Park
Shevlin Park was established in 1920 and covers 1000 square miles. It offers hiking, mountain biking and picnic areas. Tumalo Creek runs through the park and you can try kayaking, tubing or rafting on its waters. The creek runs directly into the Deschutes River and there are plenty of places to rent boats along the river. The park is open from dusk till dawn and has bathrooms and plenty of parking for your convenience. You are welcome to bring pets, so long as they are on a leash.
The Trails at Shevlin Park
Shevlin Park Bend ORoffers three different trails of varying difficulty. The Loop Trail is six miles long. You will walk along a canyon rim through tall pine trees and across the creek a couple of times. The Tumalo Creek trail is only 2.5 miles long and follows the creek from one end of the park to the other. There is also a Mountain Bike Trail which takes you along the canyon rim to the Mrazek Trail, which will lead you to the old growth Hemlock tree forest in Happy Valley.
Picnicking
There are three established picnicking areas in Shevlin Park Bend OR. One has both picnic tables and Native American tipis for the kids to enjoy and the others are covered by wooden canopies for those hot days. There is a pit toilet nearby, should you have a bathroom emergency.
The park is very close to town, so you will not have to do a lot of driving and there are plenty of opportunities for photographs, so you can make all of your friends jealous. There is even a lovey covered bridge that looks like it belongs on a post card.
