Spanning periods of history ranging from the days of the earliest local Native American tribes to the contemporary age, the Deschutes Historical Museum delves into the history of Bend to the fullest extent.

Within the museum’s walls, visitors can learn about the hardships endured by the Native Americans and fur trappers that first explored the area, as well as what life was like for the pioneers who founded modern day Bend. Among the first of Bend’s residents was Ruth Reid, the first teacher in Bend and the Reid School’s only teacher to 241 students during the early 1900s. Explore Bend’s role in the Central Oregon logging industry, which also impacted the day-to-day lives of the city’s people. The museum also provides rotating exhibits on subjects near and dear to the Bend lifestyle, such as the history of Nordic skiing in Oregon.

The Deschutes Historical Museum charges a nominal fee for its admission prices, making this attraction an extremely affordable yet entertaining option for a day out in Bend. Children ages 12 years or younger are admitted for free with a paying adult, while tickets are just $2.00 for children ages 13 to 17 years and $5.00 for adults.

The museum’s hours are held on Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00am until 4:30pm.
