Going on a vacation getaway can be more difficult than ever nowadays with inflation increasing the cost of travel and many other families also wanting to enjoy something new. This can be especially true for those wanting to make their way to Kauai for the first time. Our beautiful Hawaiian island offers a truly magical experience for those who make the trip. Like other travel destinations Kauai has several times of year where the island is less frequented than others. Kauai’s off seasons typically include the fall and winter seasons along with late spring. The reason for this can be due to school schedules and also the fall and winter having more rainfall than other parts of the year. Take a look at how you can enjoy a vacation to Kauai during the quieter seasons of the year with plenty of fun:

Escape the Rain at South Shore

Just because it is a little rainier during the fall and winter seasons here on Kauai does not mean you should stay away! Of course, we all want days where we don’t see a drop of rain fall from the sky. One of the best places to visit during the fall and winter seasons is over at the South Shore. The southern and western parts of the coast tend to be a lot drier and the South Shore is always a popular spot. You will find pristine beaches that offer large stretches of sand to relax and lay out on. Explore the shore around nighttime to find plenty of restaurants right by the water to dine with. Perhaps the most popular beach on the South Shore is Poipu Beach Park that has been voted as “America’s Best Beach” in the past. Or head over to Spouting Horn Park, where a natural blowhole in the ground shoots up water 20 feet in the area. This is one of the most photographed places on the entire island that you cannot pass up. Don’t forget to keep an eye out onto the water for humpback whale sightings!

Drive Down Waimea Canyon

Another incredible spot that deserves some attention during the winter and fall seasons is Waimea Canyon. This is a 14-mile stretch of canyon that is 3,600 feet deep. You will be able to tell it is the fall season with the ridges covered in trees that are turning to lovely shades of fall colors such as reds and oranges. Stop at one of the many view points along the way where you can take in serene views of everything around you. Or hike on down one of the several cliff trails where you can explore the canyon further. Waimea Canyon offers some of the best views of nature on all of Kauai!

Take a Sailing Excursion Around the Na Pali Coast

The fall season may feature cooler temperatures but the sun is always shining. There is nothing more inviting than finding the closest catamaran and sailing out onto the water surrounding Kauai. One of the best ways to enjoy a sailing excursion is over at Na Pali Coast. The shoreline is absolutely stunning and many of the sailing charters in the area provide quite a few different options for you to pick from including meal and drink offerings. The fall and winter seasons are a great time of year for you to see some incredible wildlife frolicking out in the water. Na Pali Coast is especially known for the abundance of dolphins, humpback whales, and sea turtles that you may see poke their heads out of the water. Make sure to bring a light jacket in case you find the breeze to be cooler than you expected when venturing out on the water.

Go Surfing at Hanalei

If you want to slow down your trip even more head over to Hanalei for a charming town that will always invite you in. Explore the many boutiques that are nestled in the community offering unique goods for sale. Hanalei is also known for being a great surfing spot here on the island due to the waves that hit the shore. Local surfing shops offer lessons for those who have yet to try out the sport and rent out any gear you need. The water is not great for swimming but the shore is more than perfect for laying out under the sun. Simply put you cannot beat some time over at Hanalei.
