A Celebration of Flavor

Presented by Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, the Indio International Tamale Festival has long been an annual highlight for locals and visitors alike. The festival has roots reaching back to 1992 when Dave Hernandez of the Downtown Indio Merchants Association recognized a brilliant opportunity to highlight and celebrate the many wonderful tamale makers that lived within the city limits. Creating the perfect tamale is no easy task, and the festival soon became an opportunity for tamale makers to additionally celebrate the skill and heritage that stands behind this well-loved food item.

Over 120,000 visitors attend this event making it one of the most popular Indio CA things to do. While it’s free to enter the festival, tamales cost an average of $2.50 per delicious try.
