We don’t expect you to pack you snorkeling fins and your surfboard on the plane to Kaua’i. Thankfully, Kaua’i has a great selection of beach shops for all your surf and beach needs. Here are a few of our favorite spots for Kauai shopping.
Deja Vu Surf
Deja Vu has three shops on Kauai in Poipu, Kapaa, and Lihue. Deja Vu has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a confectionery shop. In 1909, Japanese immigrant Mankichi Miura founded a candy shop named M. Miura Store in Kapaa. Over the years, it morphed into present day Deja Vu, which is run by fourth-generation members of Mankichi Miura’s family.
We love buying from Deja Vu because the store supports Kaua’i’s youth through volunteerism and extra-curricular activities. The business has won numerous awards, and it’s obvious why. They offer a great selection of swimsuits, footwear, watches, sunglasses, bags, boards, hats and Hawaiian-made products such as jewelry and soaps.
Kauai Shopping at Tamba Surf Company
Open since 1999, Tamba is truly a one stop shop and one of the best places to shop in Kauai. Tamba Surf Company was named “Best Surf Shop in Kaua’i” by Hawaii Magazine in 2018. Tamba sells boards, rash guards, shorts, swimwear, hats, UV shirts and more. They also make custom surfboards and rent surfboard, SUPboard, bodyboard and snorkel accessories, and offer surfing lessons. They’re open seven days a week in Kapaa. We also love Tamba because it maintains a detailed Kaua’i beach guide book available for free online.
Poipu Surf
Poipu Surf has been in business since 2010 and offers some of the best Kauai shopping. They sell and rent boards, snorkeling accessories, beach chairs, clothes and even hammocks. We love that they also sell GoPro accessories and camera bags; that’s particularly good if you’re a photographer or you’ve come to Hawaii just to test out your GoPro!
Nukumoi Surf Shop
Located in Koloa, Nukumoi has been in business since 1995 and is family-owned and -operated. The shop offers a huge rental selection including snorkels, umbrellas, life jackets and boards. They also offer group and private lessons including seven-day clinics.
