Mahiko Lounge

Fresh and modern meets vintage Hawai‘i at the Mahiko Lounge, the chic cocktail destination located in the former living room of the original manor house at Kilohana Plantation in Lihue. Mahiko (Hawaiian for “sugar plantation”) is perfectly named and perfectly suited to give you a relaxed evening of delicious libations, live music, and a friendly, casual atmosphere oozing Hawaiiana charm. The drinks all pay homage to the plantation and Hawai‘i’s unique heritage, while adding innovative modern twists.

 

Setting the Bar at the Mahiko Lounge

Entering the iconic manor home is sure to take your breath away, as this stylish and iconic testament to the grandeur of the 19th century sugar barons has been impeccably maintained. Stepping foot into the posh living room of one of the top restaurants in Kauai that will make you will immediately amazed at the intricate hardwood accents, beginning with Mahiko’s hand-crafted bar. While these 16 seats are the prime real estate, additional lounge chairs and tables providing excellent vantage points for enjoying the scenic views of the grounds and the jazz stylings of the lounge’s rotating musical acts. The original wood and furniture are uniquely preserved and updated with lush upholstery and vibrant fabrics befitting their Hawaiian roots. Vintage photographs depict celebrities of yesterday and today as they gathered at this cultural crossroads throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

 

Classic Cocktails

At the Mahiko Lounge, it is first and foremost about the rum. Featuring locally made Koloa rum, the bar offers a unique opportunity to observe a working sugar cane press and Mai Tai demonstration every Monday through Saturday at 3:15pm. Afterwards, retire to the bar and enjoy one of these delicious cocktails for yourself. Of course, you can also opt for other island-inspired drinks or iconic cocktails from across the globe like the Blue Hawaiian, the Pina Colada, or a perfect Martini.

 

Happy Hour – Pau Hāna!

Hungry after a day of exploring the working farms at the Kilohana Plantation? Pop into Mahiko’s Mondays through Fridays for Happy Hour (3-5pm) and you can enjoy five different appetizers (pupus) like Roasted Sesame Edamame, Ahi Poke, or Braised Short Rib Sliders, each only $5. Each is the perfect partner for your drink of choice. Live music is a big draw here in the lounge, and many regard Mahiko as the best spot for jazz music in all of Kaua‘i. Stop by on Tuesdays and Fridays for live piano performances (6:30-9pm), Wednesdays for acoustic medleys (6-8pm), and Thursdays (6-8pm) and Sundays (11am-1pm) for contemporary Hawaiian music.
