Tahiti Festival

The island of Kauai provides the stunning landscapes, pristine coastline and delicious fare that makes for an ideal tropical getaway. Rich in beauty, the island of Kauai also proves to be rich in culture and no festival highlights the many traditional talents on the island quite like the International Tahitian Dance Festival. From dancing to drumming and a variety of activities that fall between performances, this Tahiti Festival is definitely worth a visit when you’re here during the summer months.

A Cultural Competition

In 2019 the International Tahitian Dance Festival, one of the best things to do in Kauai, will be held August 3rd and 4th in what will be the festival’s 18th year of cultural competitions that thrill and delight onlookers and competitors alike. Hosted at Kapaa Beach Park, this Tahitian Festival puts a spotlight on the skills of dancing and drumming that have long been associated with a rich cultural past. More than 1,000 visitors make their way to this festival each of the 2-days it is hosted, providing a vast crowd for competitors to wow with their skills. Colorful and creative renditions of traditional dances will be performed in a variety of age groups ranging from junior division to senior categories alongside solo and group performances.

Spectator Specifics

While the dance and drumming competitions draw in big crowds, this Tahiti Festival is full of fun activities that make it a wonderful visit for the entire family. Professional Tahitian dance troupes are on-hand throughout the festival to provide guests with thrilling performances. Over 40 local vendors make their way to this festival, providing a great opportunity for visitors to browse and buy ethnic foods and beverages as well as local arts, crafts, jewelry, apparel and gifts. Those looking for a chance to participate in a competition that doesn’t involve dancing might be interested in partaking in one of several coconut husking contests!

Enjoy Competitive Performances

There is no fee for guests who are in town to enjoy the competition as a spectator. Those looking to participate in the competition must have applications submitted no later than July 20, 2019 and the fee to enter the contest for solo competitors begins at $35.
