Across the road you will find more delightful views of the Wailua River.

Location

Opaeka’a Falls is located in the east coast town of Wailua. From Highway 56, turn up Kuamoo Road (Hwy 580) and continue up the hill. There will be signs for the falls and a parking lot on the right. The viewing area is adjacent to the parking lot.

Wailua River

If admiring the river from afar isn’t quite enough, you may want to try a kayak excursion or river cruise. At 20 miles long, the Wailua River is Kauai’s longest river and the only river in Hawaii that is navigable by boats larger than kayaks. If you’re interested in a solo adventure, kayak rentals are available, or you can join a tour. Check out the variety of options at Kayak Kauai. If kayaking 45 minutes each way doesn’t sound like your idea of a relaxing vacation, there are also motorized cruises up the river. Check out Smith’s Kauai for their boat tour options. With both upriver excursions, there are hidden gems to discover – explore the fern-covered lava rock grotto (Fern Grotto) and Secret Falls.
