Getting Around Bend

HomeBend Guest InformationGetting Around Bend

Making your way to Bend, Oregon is always a treat, but many first-time visitors are curious about the best routes to getting around town. Bend’s location in central Oregon along the Deschutes River and within view of the Cascade Mountains makes it a great destination for those who love to explore the great outdoors. If you’re looking to get into mountainous terrain and hike and bike your way through a stay, you’re going to want to have a vehicle with you to reach those more far-flung scenic destinations. That said, a car isn’t a requirement to make the most of a journey this way. The following are a few other Bend transportation tips when you’re looking to enjoy your journey to the fullest.

Stick to Pedestrian-Friendly Areas

Bend is a destination that’s brimming over with options for fun and places to explore. Fortunately, many of those places are pedestrian-friendly! If you’re hoping to leave the car behind and stick to your own two feet, there are plenty of walking routes that will take you past iconic destinations in the city. Consider spending some time in the Old Mill District and downtown Bend. Both areas are dotted with delightful restaurants, shops, and historical landmarks to check out. You can easily walk from one to the other without any hassle. Enjoy exploring at your own pace and leave the stress of driving far behind.

Try the Cascades East Transit System

If you’re looking forward to exploring Bend and the surrounding area a bit further, but don’t want to get behind the wheel, the Cascades East Transit Bus System can be a good solution. While it’s not a vast network, this Bend transit system does include 10 stops and a transfer station in town. Buses can take you to the Cascade Village Shopping Center in the northern part of the city as well as The Forum Shopping Center on the east side. If you happen to be headed to Bend in the winter to make the most a ski getaway, this bus line runs to Mt. Bachelor as well.

Book Your Bike

One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to get around Bend when the weather is right is a bike. Bend actually enjoys the nickname Bike Town USA! The city is a maze of cycling lanes and trails just waiting to be explored. Book your rental and get ready to explore in style when you make it a biking adventure in Bend you won’t soon forget.
